ABOUT DAVID
David Hughes was born and raised in Sweden but is now based in Los Angeles, California. After studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he headed for Hollywood and the Bass Institute of Technology, BIT. After receiving the BIT Outstanding Student Award, Hughes soon joined the Musicians Institute teaching staff and began to explore life as a studio and live musician.
He has been an instructor at Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA), University of Southern California (USC) and California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and done clinics in the US, Japan and Sweden.
David’s career got its first big push when Wayne Henderson of the legendary Jazz Crusaders asked him to join the band, and he would tour and record with the band for more than a decade. For his first solo album, David asked Jazz Pianist David Benoit to perform as a guest artist. The following year Benoit asked him to join his band, and Hughes toured and recorded with him over the next fourteen years. Hughes also toured with Christopher Cross off and on for over a decade.
Hughes has released seven solo CDs and numerous singles and music videos. Notable guest performers include Wilton Felder, David Benoit, Eric Marienthal and Justin Guarini.
